The Nepal Language Gallery is the result of a research project conducted by the Central Department of Linguistics at Tribhuvan University, SIL Global, and the Global Research Institute for Languages and Cultures. The goal of this ongoing project is to promote the documentation, preservation, and use of endangered languages of Nepal. Through the efforts of Nepali and international linguists, in collaboration with local community members, this initiative seeks to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Nepal’s rich linguistic diversity.
The project includes immersive technologies which are used to create a dynamic space for the preservation and promotion of Nepal’s mother tongues. It aims to develop language technology for the languages of Nepal while fostering community flourishing through positive language identity and sustained language use. By documenting endangered languages and creating accessible archives and interactive learning resources, the gallery encourages further linguistic study and insights by students, local linguists, the international academic community, and language communities themselves.
